Sometime last week, an unknown person! s) broke into Bethel Baptist Church in Amissville and cut up nine choir robes valued at approximately $107 each. There are no signs of forced entry, and Rappahannock County Sheriff Larry Sherertz believes that the perpetrator used a credit card or similar device to get into the building.
The scissors used in the incident were left on the premises. However, they contain multiple sets of fingerprints. No one at the church is suspected. Anyone with information regarding this case should contact the Sheriff’s Office.
Larceny reported
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a grand larceny that was reported on May 10 in Chester Gap. Between $300 and $400 worth of meat was taken from an outbuilding on a private residence over a twoweek period.
Traffic problems
Rappahannock County had its share of problems on the roadways last week.
• On the evening of May 12, the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about some young men in a truck driving past The Inn at Little Washington. The truck reportedly ran a stop sign, and the passengers mooned some customers at The Inn. The truck was stopped by deputies, but no arrests were made since no witnesses came forth. An investigation is under way.
• A resident reported that a driver was speeding, zig-zagging and squealing tires on U.S. 522 between Massie’s Corner and Flint Hill during the morning hours of May 10. There is a suspect in this case.
• Virginia State Police responded to two separate accidents on May 15. The first occurred around 3:30 in the afternoon on Route 231 south of Sperryville. A Kenworth tractor driven by William Vanslyke, Jr. of
