Sperryville sets carnival

The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual carnival June 2-5. The parade will be held on Friday, June 4. Crowning of the queen will be Saturday evening. There will be prizes, games, rides, food and fun for the entire family all four evenings.

Basketball camp at RCHS

The third annual Rappahannock Basketball Camp will be held June 14-17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Rappahannock County High School. During the week the players will participate in: Offensive/Defensive drills, lectures, 5 on 5 competition, 3 on 3 competition and individual competition. This will be a learning experience plus an enjoyable week of camp. Each player is responsible for bringing their own drink. The cost of camp is $60 (nonrefundable) and checks should be made payable to Luther Stanley. For more information call Mr. Stanley at 987-8277.

Nature Camp scheduled

The Rappahannock Nature Camp will be held June 28July 9 at Singing Creek near Sperryville. This is a day camp for girls and boys age eight to 14, devoted to the study and exploration of local natural history. Due to a delay in publicity, the deadline for registration has been extended until June 10. For information call Lyt Wood at 675-1088 or pick up a brochure at the Tree Works office in Washington next to the Rappahannock Extension Office.

Contestants sought

The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Company is seeking contestants for their annual Honorary Fire Queen Contest for this year’s carnival. Contestants will be selling tickets for a beanie baby raffle and a heifer raffle. The queen and runners up will receive savings bonds, flowers, tierras and sashes. If interested call Charlotte Tummeyer at 6358278. The carnival will be held July 21-24.

Beekeepers to meet

The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association will hold its May meeting at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 20 at the Culpeper Cooperative Extension Service building at the corner of Davis Street and South West Street, Culpeper. The program will feature Honey Extraction and Post-harvest Care. Call Kevin Lunsford at 439-0743.

Amissville beauties sought

Contestants are being sought for the Amissville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company’s Queen ages 14-20; Junior Miss ages 8-13 and Little Miss, ages 3-7 for this year’s carnival which will run from June 23-26. The winner will be determined by who sells the most tickets. The ladies will ride in the parade Thursday evening and the winner will be crowned Friday night.
