He was the husband of the late Dorothy Allen Poe.
Surviving are four daughters, Nancy Hottle of Stephens City, Robin Levi of Berryville, Phyllis Leake and Odessa Yowell, both of Winchester; three sons, David Poe of Winchester, Alvin Poe Jr. and Donald Poe, both of Berryville; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Evelyn Gray of Warrenton and Marie Koglin of Front Royal and four brothers, Louis Poe of Clifton, Everett Poe of Timberville, Edgar Poe and Ollie Poe, both of Warrenton.
Pallbearers were Jerry McDonald, Eddie Deavers, Thomas Estep, James G. Ballenger, Joseph Revard and Windle Spindle.

Gilbert Lee Smedley, 56, of Front Royal died Monday, May 10 at his home.
Funeral services were conducted May 13 at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal by the Rev. Cecil Jones. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Smedley was bom Sept. 5, 1942, in Warren County, son of Sudie Curry Smedley of Front Royal and the late Clarence William Smedley.
