For this, we need the sort of “because I said so” that comes from a body of consistently-taught, well thought out religious, philosophic, and ethical knowl- . edge. There are rich resources available, the folk-tales, the parables, the lessons of history, but without the authority of an enforced belief system, consensus is hard come by.
It appears that Mr. Heddleston has achieved this consensus, at least in Rappahannock County. The attention of the University of Virginia bodes well for its wide acceptance.
