The Rappahannock High varsity baseball team battled back from an early deficit, but came up short against the George Mason Mustangs on May 11. When the evening was done, the Panthers were on the losing end of an 18-10 score.
Ervin Phillips started on the mound for Rappahannock. He allowed only five hits and struck out six batters, but struggled with his control. Phillips hit two batters, walked seven and threw a number of pitches in the dirt. He left the mound with two outs in the top of the fourth and his team trailing 8-0.
Rappahannock came alive offensively in the bottom of the inning, scoring seven runs behind the bat of Alex Baumgardner. Baumgardner led off the inning with a solo home run, and later drove in two runs with a double as the Panthers sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning.
Chris Sealock, pitching in relief, managed to keep Rappahannock within striking distance through the sixth inning. In the fifth, Marc Russell scored on a one-out sacrifice fly by Sealock to close to within 10-8. On that play, John
