And this was the beginning for Mrs. Gangel, “I decided, here’s a niche. I already liked writing for fun, verse and short stories. I found a need for the poems. I wrote 28 poems. I was on a roll. The stuff I was doing for class became a book.”
In 1995, the Wright Group published her first choral reading activities workbook, entitled “ Confetti: A Crazy, Corny Collection of Choral Reading Activities for the Classroom.”
And now the sequel is coming out, entitled “Chuckle Chants, Choral and Shared Reading Activities.” Frank Schaffer Publications is putting the book out under their Fearon Teacher Aids division.
Mrs. Gangel recalls, “The fun is in the creating. I like the writing part. I get up in the middle of the night, or pull over on the side of the road, or jump out of the shower when I have an idea, I have to write down. Animals and kids are usually my subjects, like a child sneaking under the beds for a present or homework getting ripped up in the dryer.”
Mrs. Gangel remembers the origins of some of her poems, “A rap song come on in the living room and I just started doing my own to the theme of a rappin’ rabbit. My family thought I was nuts, but we all got a good chuckle out of it. Chuckling cheers the heart. That’s one of my beliefs. I had to write this one about the moody moon. A new moon is
