Being ordinary is not often considered a compliment, but for a new bed and breakfast in SperryviUe, it is expected. The business welcomed its first guests last weekend.

In fact, the history of Hopkins Ordinary is just that, an Ordinary.

The building was constructed in the 1820s by John Hopkins as an Ordinary, which means it was there to serve the ordinary needs of those passing through the county. The building also housed a tavern in the basement and was a stage coach stopping point.

Sometime before 1900, the building was separated into dormitories, and was used more as a boarding
