done, changed a few wires, and turned on the power; nothing. He made one wire change, did it again; same result. He took out some little switch in the fan, and handed it to my neighbor. “They gave you a bad switch.”
He marked the wires for the switch so that even I could put it back together, smiled and left. On Monday, my neighbor got a new switch, I put it in, and everything worked. He was happy. I was relieved.
Now, that isn’t moving a body, but it is an example of the kind of thing a really good friend will do for you, and it was the catalyst for a minor epiphany for me. I promised myself that I would do a better job of nurturing my brother’s friendship and being worthy of such a friend.
I did try. I really did. I am not certain I succeeded. My wife says I failed miserably. I did make some small measure of progress in that I never called him again to fix somebody else’s problem.
