Community service is an important part of Hatter’s life. He has been a volunteer EMS provider for 16 years, most recently as a volunteer paramedic and EMT instructor with the Greene County Rescue Squad.
Before joining the squad in Greene he was a member of the Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Culpeper County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Melding his professional experience and avocation as a volunteer paramedic, Hatter has taught public relations and public information classes for the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for more than a decade.
Hatter’s wife, Kathy, is an emergency planner with the Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District of the Virginia Department of Health. She’s also a cardiac technician, EMT instructor and emergency vehicle operator instructor with the Greene County Rescue Squad. They have two children, Julia, 8, and Charlie, 5, and live near Stanardsville.
