Some of the most scrumptious offerings of all, though, were those to be had in “Chile”, where high school Spanish teacher Juan Maldonado, a Chilean native, and his wife and daughter, had piping hot, flaky cheese empanadas, commeal cookie sandwiches with “cajeta” condensed milk caramel and a traditional Chilean dessert cake of sponge cake rolled with cajeta called “Brazo de Reina” or Queen’s Arm, for its shape.

Visual feast

The high school library was Japan for a day. The walls were ensconced with brightly colored Japanese Anime and Manga posters and tapestries.
