Mr. Tbth noted the fond memories he had and acknowledged the skills he and his classmates had acquired in preparation for the new phase of life they were about to enter. Tbth will be attending the University of Virginia this fall. Jessica Parker of Front Royal, who will be attending Randolph Macon College, then sang, “I Hope You Dance.” Faculty members followed with the presentation of this year’s academic, citizenship and athletic awards, two of which went to seniors. Jordan Hammelman of Warrenton, who will be attending Mary Washington University, was awarded the Athletic Award, and Danielle Dombrowski of Rileyville, who will be attending Hollins University, received the Dramatics Award.
This year’s commencement speaker was Bob Ryan, chief meteorologist for NBC’s Channel 4 News. Paul Beattie of Woodville, who will be attending the University of Virginia, then gave the Valedictory address, urging the graduates to accept the duty of improving the world for the less fortunate. Following the ceremony, visitors enjoyed an outdoor reception in the school’s front courtyard. This year’s graduating class was offered over $900,000 in merit scholarships by colleges and universities throughout the United States.
Lower School Closing Ceremonies
Friday evening, June 3rd, Wakefield Country Day School students in first through seventh grade gathered with family and friends in the Leonard Cowherd Memorial Auditorium for the lower school’s closing ceremonies. Children who had achieved First Honors for the fourth quarter grading period were recognized, special awards were distributed, and the seventh grade students received their “leaving certificates,” having successfully completed a rigorous academic year that included Latin, British History, V2 Algebra, Geography, Music, Art, French and two periods of English a day. Throughout the evening, special awards were received by many Rappahannock County students, including sports, courtesy, most improved student, best in music, creative writing and language awards. A completed listing will appear in the upcoming 4th Quarter Honor Roll listing. In the Primary School, Ashlyn Ramey of Sperryville was singled out for special recognition, receiving the William E. Lynn Sr. Award for Academic Excellence, which is awarded to students who have earned the highest overall academic average for the year.
