Americans count on the military and law enforcement to keep us safe, and the courts to keep us free. But many Americans don't know how the Patriot Act disrupted our Constitution's checks and balances. It has cut the courts out of their historic role in protecting our rights during dangerous times. As Virginia's congressional delegation debates the reauthorization of the Act, the executive branch is trying to amass even more unchecked powers.
