Mrs. Ada North of Chester Gap was the winner of a “Shopping. Spree” contest sponsored by the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. Mrs. North’s shopping spree was for five minutes and in that length of time she succeeded in carrying out approximately $150 in merchandise. She shopped at the Crosssroads Grocery in Front Royal.
Three Scouts of Troop #64 , Washington, VA. Were awarded a gold palm on Eagle Rank at a Court of Honor held Monday night in Luray. They are Page Moffett, Jimmie Jenkins and David Palmer. In addition to this award, Page Mpffett received merit badges for the World Brotherhood and Chemistry; Jimmie Jenkins and David Palmer for Bookbinding and Chemistry. Awards given to other members of Troop #64 were: James Stringfellow, second class; John Henry Williams, first class and personal fitness merit badge; Champlin Carney, first class and personal fitness badge; Stewart Hawkins, Star Scout and nature, reading, camping and first aid merit badges; C. E. Giles, Jr., Life. Wage W. Massie; life and merit badges in Citizenship in the Nation, animal industry and scholarship. Mike Massie who is Mascot for the Troop, was present to receive awards for Scouts who were unable to he there.
Artist Joy Luke will hold an organizational meeting Thursday, June 24 at 2 p. m. in the Rappahannock Library in Washington for anyone interested in Art Classes.
The Amissville Ruritan Club makes an award each year to the graduate with the highest scholastic average in the local high school and in the Washington and Sperryville Elementary Schools. The award is $10 for the high school and $5 each for the other schools. Virginia Yates Bradford, valedictorian of the 65 class of Rappahannock County High School, received the award this year. In the elementary schools there was a tie for the highest average so the prize was divided. Amy Palmer and Jane Kilby received the gift at Sperryville and Wade W. Massie and Floyd Grigsby were the recipients at Washington.
