“It’s not something that needs to be in a high school yearbook. I was very upset about this. My son was concerned. Everybody I’ve shown this to has been quite shocked. It was not proper. And also, it may have opened a door. Planned Parenthood might naturally want space to respond. What about pro-war or anti-war ads? Do we want that door opened?,” Makela mused.
Further, Makela stated, “the other thing that disturbs me about this ad is that it is anonymous. We have a right to know who put that in there. They should come forward and apologize.” School Board chairman Wesley Mills, Jackson District, responded. “We have had a great year and we need to focus on that..” whereupon Mills proceeded on to other business.
When asked about the matter later, Mills and Chappell both said they had not yet had time to look into the matter.
In other business, the Board voted unanimously to approve the proposed revised slate of new hires and changes of existing teaching and employment assignments.
