In the 41st District around Burke, conservative Michael Golden, 31, defeated Bill Finerfrock, 44, by almost a three-to-one margin. The incumbent, Jim Dillard, 71, who helped lead last year’s moderate uprising, is retiring after 25 years in the House.
Jim Hyland, 44, won the GOPs 35th House District primary around Vienna, defeating Edward Robinson, 41, and Arthur Purves, 56. He will now face Democratic incumbent Stephen Shannon, 34.
And in central Fairfax’s 37th District, former Fairfax City mayor John Mason, 72, defeated James Kaplan, 34, for the Republican nomination. He will face up-and-comer David Bulova, 36, son of county supe - visor Sharon Bulova, after he defeated school board member Janet Oleszek, 58, in the Democratic primaiy.
As anticipated, voter turnout was low, registering at 7.8 percent in Fairfax and less than that statewide.
