Bringing life back to the old building has been a twoyear labor of love for Fickel and Kraditor, who have been visiting Rappahannock County for many years for hiking, camping and enjoying the area’s organic foods and wines.
During their visits to the county, the couple often stayed at Belle Meade Bed and Breakfast, enjoying the flavor of the country setting. The pair began talking of ways to enjoy early retirement, getting out of the hustle-and-bustle of working in Washington, D.C. where Fickel is a technology and computer consultant and Kraditor works for Health Services Research in Alexandria.
“Life’s pretty short and we just thought that we could enjoy early retirement by owning a B & B,” Fickel said while enjoying one of the grand porches that surround the building.

On the outside of Hopkins Ordinary, the massive structure on Main Street in Sperryville is graced by scalloped columns and rails on both the upstairs and downstairs porches.
