Lou Hatter recently joined VDOTs Culpeper District staff as Public Affairs Manager.
A veteran journalist, Hatter has been a community newspaper editor for 20 years.
For the past ten years, Hatter was on staff at The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, where he’d been managing editor since 2000. Before joining The Daily Progress, he was the managing editor of the Rappahannock News from 1986 to 1991, and editor of the Fauquier TimesDemocrat from 1991 to 1996. He also served as the director of news operations for Times Community Newspapers, which owns the Rappahannock News and the Times-Democrat.
Community journalism provided a strong foundation for his new job, Hatter said.
“Our job at the paper was to inform our readers - our customers - about the events that were affecting or likely to affect their lives. Many of VDOTs operations have a significant effect on people’s daily lives. One of my jobs as public affairs manager is to inform and educate the public about what VDOT and the Culpeper District are doing.
