The students at the Mountain Laurel Montessori Farm School at Belle Meade in Sperryville, returned after Labor Day to find a full garden and set about harvesting the organic bounty. The school has squash, pumpkins, yams, herbs, tomatoes and other items for sale.
Due to warm weather up until last week, the garden is producing as if it were still September. Much of the produce has been sold to local markets and restaurants who are seeking high quality, organic produce. The students are very proud of their efforts. Also, we will have turkeys ready for your Thanksgiving table. As a caterer, I can tell you these are the most delicious birds I have ever served. They will be dressed and ready for pick up on the Monday and Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving. Recipe cards will be available with ideas on how to roast or B-B-Q these organic, yummy birds. Call the school at 540-987-9313 to order. Turkeys can be picked up at the Mountain Laurel Campus in Front Royal or at Belle Meade.
The school welcomed six new students this year, including four who are Rappahannock County residents. We also welcome new teacher David Selgado, a Certified Montessori teacher, to the school community.
