This will encourage business, help our vulnerable citizens, and assist our commuting workers. There are a number of things that can be done. 1) I support legislation that will dedicate fuel tax income to transportation related projects. 2) To help our commuting workers, I support establishment of commuter buses and provision of more commuter parking lots for people who choose to ride share. 3) I support establishing a voluntary tax contribution program to support senior and handicapped transportation. And 4) In order to maintain our countryside, we must critically look at the impact of 1-81. Expanding it to twelve lanes, six dedicated to trucks, tolls for its entire length in Virginia, as has been proposed by the US Congress, would have a disastrous impact on the Valley and would make 1-81 a truck racetrack. In Page and Rappahannock Counties, the impact will also be significant - the additional traffic on US 211 resulting from trucks trying to avoid tolls is estimated to be as much as an additional 2,000 trucks a day. Freight rail options must be considered. The transportation crisis must be solved without paving the entire Shenandoah Valley. • Would you support two-term limits for governor?
