Tax Pledges
Washington resident Henry Gorfein asked the candidates whether no tax pledges were a good thing.
Blubaugh: “I don’t want higher taxes, but as a businessman I’m not comfortable with giving up that flexibility to react to changing financial situations.”
Gilbert: “I have signed a no new tax pledge because I believe very strongly that every new situation is not a reason for a new tax. I believe fundamentally that there is enough money going into government. ... Like last year, crying chicken little that we need higher taxes or we’ll be in trouble. ... The solution, it can’t be dipping into taxpayer’s pockets. It has to be where we can save ...”
