The Ami Seville Volunteer Fire Department, known as Company 3, celebrated National Fire Prevention Week with an Open House on the evening of Sunday, October 23. The afternoon was interesting and informative. Attractions at the open house included blood pressure testing, free fire safety literature, and souvenirs for the kids.
There were several demonstrations showing visitors safety procedures in case of fires or automobile wrecks. Art Candenquist demonstrated step-by-step how volunteers outfitted in fuU fire fighting gear use their tools and techniques to extricate victims of car wrecks from mangled vehicles. They used the Jaws of Life and other strong tools to cut the car apart in order to remove the victim. Carl Lovem demonstrated the method of extinguishing fires with a pressurized water canister. Law enforcement personnel from Rappahannock County were also on hand for the open house
