On September 26, 2005, Hearthstone School’s 6th and 7th grade class transformed their classroom into a Roman triclinium and enjoyed a meal typical of the Roman Empire.
Lounging couches, typical of a Roman dining room, were created and a low table was spread with grapes, almonds, feta cheese, and rustic bread and olive oil. A warm punch made with grape juice and cinnamon accompanied the mead. As students reclined on the couches, wearing togas and sampling Roman fare as Roman noblemen would have done, their teacher recounted facts of life from Roman society, entertainment, life for women and children, religion, literature, art and law.
