presented at the International Montessori Adolescent Colloquium in Cleveland. This was an international conference with attendees from France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Australia and Mexico in attendance.
A 32-mile-canoe trip on the Shenandoah was an exciting and challenging way to start the year. The trip provided an opportunity for students to get to know each other better, working together to plan the trip, solving problems, learn to work cooperatively setting up camp each night, cooking, and switching canoeing partners each day. Everyone came home happy, tired and wet, as well as inspired by the beauty of nature they witnessed during the three day trip.
As with last years curriculum, this year we will again strive to balance between the practical (farm work) and intellectual (academic studies). One focus of studies this year, along with Math Logic, Algebra, Latin, and Spanish, Scientific Occupations, will be Humanities. The students are learning about the Celts and Romans, making the comparison of the tribal and imperial cultures.
