On October 20, Hearthstone School students, teachers, parents and friends took their eagerly anticipated annual field trip to Circle of Seeds’ Com Maze on Route 245 in The Plains, Virginia. Kate and Hub Knott, former Hearthstone teachers, operate the com maze: This year’s maze, the 6th maze created here and entitled “Bam to be Wild,” is in the shape of a bam, silo and sun and focuses on farming facts and information. The com maze is both a learning experience and an adventure through the tall com stalks, and meets Virginia Standards of Learning. Each maze wanderer enters the maze armed with crayon, flag and a blank survival guide, on a mission to discover educational clues to help them navigate their way through the maze and complete a map to take home.
