We do need wiser use of our tax money. 1) I will work to reform the VDOT budget, 14% of which is now set aside for interest payments. 2) I will seek more public/private partnerships, such as that outlined in my education response above. 3) I will work to allow counties to have options for taxation other than property tax, options such as a real estate transfer tax, in order to ease the tax pressure on residents. And 4) I will oppose any increase in sales tax on durable goods, since this could harm Virginia in its business competition with other states and since sales taxes have the greatest impact on those with limited incomes.
