As hard as it is for me to do, I must turn my attention to something besides hunting, at least for the sake of the readers of this column, and, possibly, the editor. A couple of things come immediately to mind, and I will share them with you.
Fall is the season when all things begin to prepare for the coming winter. We get the colorful flannel shirts out of the closet. If we are lucky, we put flannel sheets on the bed. I only discovered that luxury about 20 years ago, and have not been without them since.
When I was a kid, we had to get the wood stoves out of the shed and make sure they were still in good repair, and install them. But, for the early, cold mornings, we always had the wood cook stove in the kitchen, which was used all year long, and that would knock the chill off the air while you had your breakfast and got ready for school or the workday.
