Blubaugh: “Part of what Gilbert said struck a chord with me. When we first moved to Rappahannock, the area was dominated by a familiar set of names, families that go way back around here. More and more, old families can’t stay here. There is heavy, heavy pressure because of increases in land prices. The ability of localities to have transfer fees is (sic) a deterrent to growth, but also gives (sic) localities a way to take pressure off property taxes... I will work to keep our area rural. Keeping land in Land Use (lowering taxes for agricultural land) is helpful...”
