The work of over 50 well-known “Artists of Rappahannock County” will be shown on a Studio and Gallery Tbur set for Saturday and Sunday, November 5 and 6. Sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC), this is hopefully the first of many annual events that will showcase the inspiration and skill of the county’s art community.
The art represented in the show and on the tour of studios and galleries ranges from portraiture to landscape painting, from sculpture in various mediums to pottery, glassworks and jewelry, and blacksmithing.
Ten artists in the county will host open houses at their studios to show their work.
One of those, Nol Putnam, is a well-known blacksmith whose work is found in commissions throughout the country.
Putnam, an accomplished blacksmith of some 30 years practice, designed the famous wrought iron gates and ceremonial flower holders for the interior of the National Cathedral in Washington. He also works on private commissions throughout the country, as well as in Rappahannock County.
