Flying pigs are usually associated with impossible things, snowballs in hell, or at least explosions in bacon factories. Now, just outside of Sperryville, The Flying Pig is the new bar opening at Sunnyside Farms @ The Schoolhouse.
“I’m British, and as pub names go it fits about with the bunch,” explained Sunnyside General Manager Philip Morgan. The new bar and grill opened for the first time on Friday, December 2 and plans to stay open Thursdays through Mondays starting at 3:00 p.m. for the winter months.
“We’re just really excited to get to the point of opening,” said Morgan.
Inner pig
The Flying Pig is a big place with high ceilings, occupying what used to be retail space in Sunnyside’s Schoolhousebuilding on US 211. Just inside the entrance hovers the inspiration for the bar’s name, the Flying Pig himself. Being made from about 500 pounds of fiberglass, he wouldn’t of been much good at the bacon factory anyway.
