At 1 p.m. on May 2, 1929 a cyclone (as folks called tornadoes in those days) struck Rye Cove, a village not far from Bristol, VA.
The storm struck the local high school, killing 13 and seriously injuring 50. Newspaper accounts of the devastation could easily be describing the aftermath of events in our recent memory such as hurricane Katrina.
