Hitchens took the horse’s body to the Virginia State Veterinary Laboratory in Warrenton for an autopsy, and a gunshot entry wound was found behind Hobo’s lung.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Department. Hitchens hes expressed doubt that the incident might be a hunting accident, mainly because the horse was wearing a blue horse blanket when it was shot.
“We don’t know whether it was a stupid prank or a sick joke or what,” said Hitchens.
