providing rides, but needs more volunteers. Call Lola Walker at (540) 825-3100, ext. 3358. Remember drivers can be reimbursed for gas mileage.
If you are under 60 and you need a ride, or if you are under 55 and wish to volunteer, contact Sharon Pyne at Department of Social Services at 6753313. She will coordinate rides for those needing help getting to a medical visit or pharmacy.
For involved churches, the contact person/pastor can also arrange rides directly from the master list of volunteers.
Coordinators will call volunteers to schedule rides, volunteers will call rides to make arrangements, but drivers’ phone numbers are kept confidential. Volunteers will keep rider information confidential, also.
Those needing rides should try to make the request at least a week ahead.
Requests will be referred by Social Services, the Health Department, Cancer Society, churches, etc. for medical and medically related trips.
