Horse shooting
A horse belonging to Peter Hitchens of Fletcher’s Mill Road was found dead from a gunshot wound at Hitchens’ Fullclip Farm on the morning of Sunday, December 3. The horse, named Hasty Hobo, was found lying on the ground in a Fullclip pasture with a wound in the side.
“This is a great loss to me,” said Hitchens.
The horse was last seen alive on the afternoon of December 3 by Amy Liscomb. She had gone to the paddock to fetch another horse at about 3:30 p.m. Shortly after that sighting Liscomb heard shooting from the direction of the Thornton River, which borders Hitchens’ property. Gunshots in the woods are a common Rappahannock sound in the fall, and Liscomb was not concerned. She returned to the paddock at 4:30 p.m. and didn’t see Hasty Hobo with the other horses. According to Hitchens, it is not unusual for some of the horses to be out of sight occasionally.
