sincere desire of a caring citizen trying to make government more responsive to the community. And he was surely the hardest working candidate to hit the trail around here in “many a moon. ”
The only reason I can figure he didn’t win is that there are those neighbors among us who still consider only “party” when they go to the polls, who reflexively vote Republican.
But the results here in our county, the results statewide in Virginia, and the seachange in public opinion about the ruinous consequences of GOP policies are all signs that the hand work of Jim Blubaugh and the folks in this room today are paying off. Jim did not get the victory he deserved, the one he worked so hard for. But he got a great victory anyway. He stepped into the arena, into a thankless job, and did so in the best tradition of the republic. He presented himself not as a strident partisan, but as a thoughtful problem solver and a genuinely caring patriot, in the best sense of that word. If he had not done so, we would all have lost something much more important. We would have lost our voice. Thanks, Jim, for being a voice for right and reason. You have made us very proud to know you.”
