A recent assembly served as an opportunity for the preprekindergartens to share with the rest of the student body their newly acquired knowledge of our solar system. Each of the students appeared on stage and helped “present a planet,” complete with a brief verbal description, colorful visual aides, and a song for all to sing. Pre-K teacher Kimberly Shafran pointed out to the younger students that recent technological advances have yielded new scientific discoveries, necessitating an update in the song lyrics to “nine OR MORE” planets.” This presentation is just one of the ways in which WCDS students are exposed at an early age to public speaking, so that by the time they reach the upper grades they are comfortable giving public presentations.
