Round Table to meet
Aspecial meeting ofthe Blue Ridge Civil War Round Table will be held I\xesday, February 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Library to consider the future of the seven-year-old organization.
The group, which was founded in 1999 at the Old Sperryville Bookshop, appointed a committee of reorganization at its January meeting to come up with a proposed plan for the future of the Round Table. The committee will outline its findings and proposals at the February 28 meeting and solicit ideas and suggestions from those attending. Based on the level of interest shown in continuing the organization, the committee will propose to either reinvigorate the Round Table or disband it.
The purpose of the Civil War Round Table is to study and discuss the pivotal period of American history that revolves around the War Between the States, 1861-65. The group has held monthly meetings featuring knowledgeable speakers including authors, historians, re-enactors and other students of all aspects of the Civil Wkr era—military, political and social.
The group’s meetings are open to the public. A decline in attendance in the past two years has raised questions about the viability of the group. Officers elected in January 2005 have served out their one-year terms and have declined reelection.
