Some of our common dragonflies, such as the green darners, actually do migrate, but nearly all of them simply die at the end of summer. They die of old age, or of exhaustion, or because there is a lack of other insects to prey on.
They have, of course, left behind millions of baby dragonflies. They are now in their larval form, living in our streams, rivers and ponds, and as predators they are as voracious as their swifter adult ancestors.
