Virginia’s farm wineries should be free to host promotional events without heavy regulation from local government, the House of Delegates has decided.
The chamber approved by a 75-25 vote a bill by Delegate David Albo, R-Springfield, to allow wineries to host events such as dinners, tastings and concerts to promote wines.
“This is an important bill because it leaves them free to operate their business without government intervention,” Albo said of House Bill 1435. “You have to leave these guys alone to be able to run their business.”
Vintners would still have to comply with noise and setback regulations and get special use permits for crowds based on the farm’s size.
