Five dens, a total of approximately 25 Cub Scouts, competed for top honors in multiple-elimination pinewood races.
Officials at the check-in tables were kept busy before the races as all entries were weighted and measured to make sure they conformed to the required specifications.
The cars must meet several specific requirements. Each must be no more than 7 inches in length and weigh no more than 5 oz. There are also specified limits to the wheel base and width of the cars.
The kits scouts use to build their cars consist of a piece of wood, four nails and four wheels. The rest is left to the imaginations of the kids and sponsors.
