Sherman C. Ivy, 72, died Feb. 3 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va., after a lengthy illness at the Blue Ridge Care and Rehab, Charles Town, W.Va.
He was born Sept. 7, 1933, in Flatonia, Texas, to the late Elsie and Joe Ivy.
Mr. Ivy began his newspaper career at the San Antonio Express and News. It took him to the Northern Virginia Sun in Arlington and the Army/ Navy Times in Georgetown.
While consulting with the publisher of Equus, a leading horse magazine, he became interested in horses and the horse industry. He became well-known in the industry, but his failing health lead him to form a horse marketing association which he could conduct from home.
