Rappahannock called timeout with seven seconds left and set up for a potential game-winning shot. The Lady Mountaineers tied up Courtney Hutchinson and wound up with the ball. But Kim Hutchinson stole the ball back for the Lady Panthers and dished off to Tupper, whose shot did not fall as the buzzer sounded.
Kim Hutchinson had a huge night for Rappahannock. She finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. Terrell and Kelly Campbell led Madison with 14 points each.
“Kim really stepped it up for us tonight,” Jenkins said. “She was a rebound away from a double-double.”
In the overtime, Campbell took a pass from Tbrrell off the tip-off and hit an layup for a 3230 Madison lead. About a minute later, Jennifer Tucker connected on a 10-footer for a 34-30 margin.
The Lady Panthers did not quit. Kim Hutchinson hit the first of two free throws with 2:23 left to cut the deficit to three. Then, senior forward Samantha Brown picked up a loose ball under the basket and sank a short jumper to trim the Madison lead to 34-33 with 1:21 left.
