The final accreditation report for Rappahannock County Public schools was delivered to School Board members in Tuesday night’s meeting.
“All schools, both the High School and the Elementary school are fully accredited this year,” said Executive Director of Instruction Dave Covington.
Covington also noted that the elementary school failed to make Federal requirements for the Annual Yearly Progress (AYP).
The No Child Left Behind Act of2001 requires states to set annual benchmarks for achievement in reading and mathematics leading to 100 percent proficiency by 2014. Schools must meet all 29 indicators of AYP, meeting or exceeding all annual benchmarks to be rated as having made AYP.
The Rappahannock? Elementary School met 28 of the 29 indicators, failing only in math. This is primarily due to the low performance oh the new Virginia State Standard of Learning Scores math tests for grade 6
