The funeral service will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, on Saturday, October 14 at 4 p. m. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or the Rappahannock County Library.

William I. Connelly

Family in Washington

William I. Connelly, 84, of Warrenton, died on Sunday, October 8, at home.

A native of New Orleans, he served in World War II in the Army Air Corps. While stationed in England, he met his beloved wife, E. June Connelly, affectionately known as “Red”. Their marriage of 61 years is a loving legacy to their children. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2005.

He worked as an electric lineman for 28 years. He left line work in 1976 and worked as a maintenance engineer at Walter Reed Army Medical Center until his retirement in 1988.

Mr. Connelly loved woodworking and gardening. He could often be found in his workshop where the smell of wood and varnish would signify another finished project. He shared a love of gardening with his wife and through the years they created many beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.

He shared his love of fishing with his children sharing the intricacies of largemouth bass fishing. The quiet times spent on the banks of a pond were precious times for his children.

In his retirement years, he became an avid collector of old English coins. He enjoyed many hours of study, learning the many facets of this fascinating hobby.

During this time, he also began writing stories. Drawn from his days as a lineman and youth in New Orleans, these stories tell a life of hard work, laughter and love. His strong Catholic faith and love of God sustained him throughout his life. He will be missed by many
