and grade 7. Only fifteen percent of the 6th graders passed the new math test and only two percent of the 7th graders passed. The school had a 100 percent pass rate in Algebra and a 90 percent pass rate in prealgebra. According to a press release from the State Department of Education, the new tests are focused on preparing 6th and 7th graders for upper level math.
Abnormally low scores were reported throughout the state, leading many school officials to question the new SOL math tests for grades 6 and 7. State Virginia State Superintendent Billy Cannaday, however, stood behind the tests encouraging officials to meet the requirements for next year.
