“It was kind of tough for my family, for me to be gone so long,” said Williams. Nonetheless, said the officer, his wife Leslie was very supportive of the training. She is in law enforcement also, working for the Warren County Sheriff’s Department.
Unique to Virginia, the NCJCC training program is cosponsored by the University of Virginia’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies and Virginia State Police. NCJCC offers a collective public and private policing training curriculum that focuses on leadership, management issues, forensic science, collaboration and negotiation, and legal issues and the law. The College is designed for mid- to upper-level criminal justice professionals. The graduation ceremony was held September 21. Each graduate earned 15 hours of college credit from the University of Virginia, as well as enhanced his or her professional skills and knowledge.
A native of Chester Gap and a graduate of Rappahannock High School, Williams first started working for the Sheriff’s department when he was 19, filling an open staff position in the County Jail. Since then he has worked for the Rappahannock Sheriff’s department for 18 years serving under three different Sheriffs.
