Double testing
The school board also discussed double testing. According to Rappahannock Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell, the math scores from grades 6 and 7, would probably have been higher if the school double tested its advanced math students.
Any students from grades 6 and 7 that rose to the accelerated algebra class did not take the 6th and 7th grade math tests. Instead, they took the grade level tests that they had excelled to. If a 6th or 7th grader who took an algebra class did take both the algebra math test and the 6 or 7th grade math test, it would have significantly raised the score. This is called “double testing.” The state recommended that schools not double test advanced students. “I know that a number of schools did, in fact, double test,” said Chappell.
