The letter that appears in
your September 28th edition under the heading “Repeal the 17th Amendment” contains a significant error of historical fact. The writer avers that as adopted in 1788, Article 1, Section 3, of the United States Constitution provided that “all U. S. senators shall be chosen from among the various state legislatures.” In fact, there were no such provision in Article 1, Section 3.
