Queen.” The star, Helen Mirren, beautifully plays Queen Elizabeth II in this movie—a role which earned her an Academy Award for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.” The film also was nominated for three other Academy awards as well: Best Motion Picture of the Year, Achievement in Directing, and Achievement in Music.
Although I have not seen this film, I have been looking forward to its debut at The Theatre at Washington by RAAC for many months. This “review,” therefore, is based on comments of both critics and friends who have seen “The Queen” — all of which entice me to see the film this Friday evening.
The story line is the drama following the immediate aftermath of the tragic death of Princess Diana in the summer of 1997, pitting the tradition-bound image of the Queen of England with the image-conscious new British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, in a moment of unprecedented national grief.
