recently completed an assignment in Nebraska. Up until then, they explain, that was the only one of the contiguous 48 states in which they had not worked.
Franklin and Esther count themselves fortunate to travel in their work. Their assignments take them to some of the nation’s smallest communities and most rural areas as well as the largest cities.
“We get to know people from every part of the country, which certainly gives us insight into lives and points of view beyond East and West coasts,” said Franklin.
Esther Schmidt agrees, “We are fortunate to love what we do for a living. Beyond that, there immeasurable benefits and myriad incredible experiences that come from endless miles on the road, talking to and listening to people and being part of their lives, even for a short time. But much as we love all of it, there is nothing like crossing the Rappahannock County line on the way home.” The Schmidts have been full time residents of Rappahannock County since 1979.
