Just north of Flagstaff lies Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. There the Guyants viewed a 1000 ft. volcano and hiked its lava flow trail witnessing the minimal vegetative life after over 900 years of dormancy. The next stop was the Wupatki National Monument to see pueblo ruins of the Wupatki people. Amazingly, these Indians were able to survive the very dry, hot region for a time.
